Emily, Survivor of Human Trafficking & Domestic Violence
ICare St. Pete hosted a community event at Mirror Lake Park near downtown St. Petersburg. Emily, who had been homeless for over eight years and was 67 years of age, met the ICare St. Pete team and shared the horrors of how she had been living in a “Crack House.” Emily was very, very sick and was visibly shaking that day. She pleaded for assistance from ICare St. Pete. Emily said she could not go on living like that or else she would die.
ICare St. Pete reached out to Emily and formulated a plan. First up was to get her medical treatment. In so doing, it was discovered that Emily tested positive for HIV and Venereal disease. Before enlisting Emily in a special HIV In-house treatment program, ICare St. Pete gave her a free spa and beauty treatment. Today, Emily is making wonderful progress with her drug and HIV program, and looks forward to all that life has to offer to someone like herself… someone who has seen the worst, yet still holds on to hope and healing thanks to her friends at ICare St. Pete!
